Simon Tian

I’m a Canadian entrepreneur who builds technology companies.

At 17, I dropped out of school to start Neptune↗, which developed the world’s first standalone smartwatch. The company was later acquired. I then founded Fonus↗, a global telecommunications company focused on eliminating borders in mobile connectivity. My work centers on building technology, solving difficult problems, and challenging established industries. I was named one of Les Affaires’ Top 30 Under 30 and was selected as a Thiel Fellow↗ at 20.

Outside of business, I have a longstanding passion for music. I won first place twice at the Canadian Music Competition↗ in piano performance and have a particular appreciation for Liszt and Rachmaninoff. I also enjoy jazz improvisation and music production.

I like travelling and experiencing different cultures. I speak English, French, and Mandarin. I’m drawn to understanding how things work and pursuing ideas with the potential to make a meaningful impact.
